Farmers never know what to anticipate when they put their crop in the ground. From planting to harvest, they navigate variable environmental factors like drought, disease pressure and pest pressure — which can be challenging to do without support from their retailer. Indiana corn and soybean farmer Gary Hendrix said his strong relationship with his retailer, Ben Wiatt of Keystone Cooperative, enables him to make strategic management decisions that lead to healthier crops, cleaner fields and higher yield potential.
Throughout the 2025 growing season, Hendrix and Wiatt have worked together as they have before to determine which inputs would help push Hendrix’s acres of Brevant® brand corn and soybeans. Although the duo uses crop protection products each season for enhanced performance, Hendrix said the results he gets from his Brevant brand corn and soybeans can be credited to the genetics in the seed.
“As far as yield goes, the 2025 crop has the potential to be the best I’ve ever had,” Hendrix said. “I think that’s because of the Brevant seeds genetics. They’re getting a lot of plant protection bred into these crops, and it’s helping a lot. I’ve always said that I don’t mind investing in seed, because you get the newest and best traits available. It pays off.”
A winning season is defined by more than just yield numbers though. Because nothing about farming is easy, finding solutions that help simplify management decisions is also a victory worth celebrating. For instance, Hendrix and Wiatt made a crop protection application they believe has made a big difference in performance and provided a key learning to take into next year.

“Overall, Gary has had a phenomenal crop — considering what we thought we’d be experiencing after a dry year,” Wiatt said. “His acres of Brevant seeds consistently perform well; and we saw that even more this year, as we targeted southern rust and white mold pressure with fungicide applications. Despite the lack of rainfall, the crop responded very well to fungicide. Because of that, the yield we’ve seen so far has been phenomenal.”

Having a support team that you can rely on is a worthy accomplishment for farmers. By working closely with Wiatt, Hendrix gets peace of mind that he’s making the best decisions for his operation to save him time and money — all while achieving high yield potential.
“Because there is always something to be done on the farm, I don’t prioritize evaluating test plots or attending field days,” Hendrix said. “Instead, Ben does that for me and advises me on what he thinks would work best on my fields. That’s the secret. When you have someone you really like, you just trust them.”
As Hendrix and Wiatt wrap up the 2025 season, they’ll take a look back at this year to evaluate product performance and make seed decisions for 2026. Hendrix said he plans to increase the acres he plants to Brevant brand corn and soybeans.
